Association between Low Bone Mineral Density (BMD) and Avascular Necrosis (AVN) Chart Review Study

Description: This study is a chart review, meaning the study team will be reviewing medical records for research. The purpose of this study is to examine the association between Low BMD and AVN. Low BMD is highly prevalent in SCD, but has not been looked at as a potential risk factor, or comorbidity of AVN. Medical records of SCD patients who have had at least 1 DXA scan of the lumbar spine, proximal femur or whole body will be reviewed.
Inclusion: Individuals 10 years of age or older who have sickle cell disease and had at least 1 DXA scan of any site obtained between June 2005 and July 2017.
